Imprinted concrete driveways in London.

Pattern imprinted concrete is a continuous reinforced slab, coloured and imprinted while wet to look like stone, slate, cobble or brick, then sealed. It suits drives that need a strong surface with a decorative finish.

One continuous slab. Patterned and sealed.

Imprinted concrete is poured as a reinforced slab, coloured with a surface hardener, textured with patterned mats while it is still workable, then cut with control joints and sealed. Because there are no joints between units, there is nowhere for weeds to establish within the surface.

The work happens in one day of pouring, so timing, weather and a prepared team matter. We plan the pour around access, the weather forecast and where the concrete lorry can stand.

Is imprinted concrete permeable?

No – imprinted concrete is an impermeable surface. Rainwater has to be directed to a drain, channel or soakaway, or to a permeable area within your property.

For front gardens this matters for planning, so we design the falls and drainage as part of the quotation.

Benefits

Why choose imprinted concrete?

  • Strong, continuous slab

Reinforced concrete spreads load across the whole drive.

  • Decorative finish

Stone, slate, cobble, brick and tile patterns in a range of colours.

  • Fewer weeds

No joints within the surface for weeds to root into.

  • Quick to use

Poured in a day; usable after curing time we confirm.

  • Contrasting borders

Border patterns and colours to frame the main area.

  • Resealable

The sealant can be renewed over time to refresh the colour.

Uses

Residential. Commercial.

Residential

  • Driveways where a single continuous surface is wanted
  • Patios and paths matching the drive
  • Front garden conversions with drainage designed in
  • Sloping drives with a textured finish site dependent

Commercial

  • Forecourts and yard areas
  • Showroom and office entrances
  • Residential estate access roads specification dependent
  • Pedestrian walkways

Options

Choices to make.

  • Pattern

Ashlar, cobble, slate, setts, brick and more.

  • Colour

Base colour hardener with a contrasting release agent.

  • Border

    Contrasting border pattern or colour.

  • Sealant finish

Satin or gloss sealer, with anti-slip additive where useful.

Samples are brought to the survey. Colours on screen are indicative only.

Groundwork

The base is what makes it last.

The slab needs a stable, well-compacted sub-base, formwork set to the correct falls and steel mesh reinforcement where specified. Drainage and control joints are planned before the pour, not afterwards.

  • Excavation and removal of the old surface
  • Compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base
  • Formwork to line and level, falls to drainage
  • Steel mesh reinforcement where specified

Installation process

How we install imprinted concrete.

  1. Survey

Levels, drainage, access for the concrete lorry or pump.

  2. Written quotation

Itemised: excavation, base, drainage, pattern, colour, sealing.

  3. Groundwork

Excavation, sub-base, formwork and drainage installed.

  4. Pour & colour

Concrete poured and levelled; colour hardener applied.

  5. Imprint

Pattern mats pressed in while the concrete is workable.

  6. Cut, clean & seal

Control joints cut, surface washed and sealed.

How long does it take?

Groundwork usually takes a few days, followed by a single pour day. Sealing follows once the slab has cured enough. The whole job typically runs to about a week, depending on size and weather – we don't pour in unsuitable conditions.

Aftercare

Sweep and wash periodically. The sealant protects the surface and can be renewed every few years to restore colour – we'll give guidance at handover.

  • Area

Overall size and shape of the slab.

  • Groundwork

    Excavation depth and sub-base required.

  • Drainage

Channel drains, gullies or soakaways for an impermeable surface.

  • Pattern & colours

Complexity of pattern, borders and number of colours.

  • Access for concrete

Whether a pump is needed to reach the area.

  • Sealing

Sealant type and any anti-slip additive.

FAQs

Imprinted Concrete FAQs.

Does imprinted concrete crack?

Concrete can develop fine cracks; control joints are cut to guide where movement happens. A sound sub-base and correct reinforcement reduce the risk.

Is imprinted concrete slippery?

Sealed surfaces can be slippery when wet. An anti-slip additive can be mixed into the sealer – we recommend it on slopes and paths.

Can it be laid on a slope?

Often, yes, with formwork and falls designed for the gradient. We assess this at survey.

How long before I can drive on it?

After the curing period we confirm for your job, which depends on temperature and the mix.

Does it need resealing?

Yes, periodically. Resealing refreshes colour and protection.
